Calash supports Foresight on its investment into J+S Subsea

Calash is pleased to announce that it provided commercial due diligence and independent market intelligence to Foresight Group on its investment into J+S Subsea, a specialist subsea engineering business focused on the provision, repair, refurbishment, and lifecycle support of subsea control systems.

What Does J+S Subsea Do?

Headquartered in Dyce, Aberdeen, J+S Subsea delivers proactive and cost-effective engineering solutions across the Subsea Production Control (SPC) market, including:

  • Subsea control module refurbishment
  • Obsolescence management and legacy system support
  • Design and engineering of subsea control components
  • Operational support, workshop services, and maintenance for subsea equipment
  • Rapid-response repair solutions for offshore operators

Since completing a management buyout in 2020, the business has delivered significant growth, with revenues more than doubling and recognition as one of Scotland’s fastest growing companies in 2024.

Calash’s Role: Deep Dive Commercial Due Diligence

Calash conducted comprehensive commercial due diligence (CDD) on behalf of Foresight Group, providing assessment of J+S Subsea’s positioning within the subsea controls and offshore energy services markets.

The scope of work included:

  • Independent market review of subsea control systems, brownfield lifecycle support, and offshore asset integrity services
  • Market mapping across operators, OEMs, engineering houses, and supply chain stakeholders
  • Competitive positioning analysis versus niche engineering service providers and OEM aligned control system companies
  • Assessment of J+S’s growth strategy, commercial model, and revenue scalability
  • Review of the business plan, investment thesis, and potential exit pathways
  • Customer referencing to validate service delivery, responsiveness, and technical capability

This analysis supports Foresight as it positions J+S Subsea for continued expansion, particularly as energy transition projects drive demand for refurbishment, re-engineering, and enhanced reliability of subsea control assets.

Statement from Foresight Group

“Calash was well placed to support Foresight as it sought to understand the market opportunity that the energy transition presents for J+S Subsea. The Calash team was responsive, detail orientated and intuitively knowledgeable about the commercial and technical considerations associated with the offshore energy sector. Its commercial due diligence will help us guide the business into its next phase of growth.”

Ryan Finesy, Investment Manager, Foresight Group
